Expertise

Catherine has been a practising lawyer for nearly 20 years and has a depth of experience in the area of personal planning. She gained specialised knowledge in rural matters as the legal counsel for the Westland Dairy Company before joining Govett Quilliam and continues to act for many farming clients today. Over the years she has developed her skills in succession planning and has worked alongside many clients to establish enduring, robust and fit for purpose plans in terms of the future of their family businesses.

Catherine’s primary focus is now asset protection and trust matters. She oversees Govett Quilliam’s Trust Review Programme to ensure efficient and appropriate management and administration of Trusts. She advises on estate planning and prepares Wills and Memorandum of Wishes for clients. Catherine has excellent working knowledge of the Trusts Act 2019 and has reviewed many Trust Deeds and Trust structures since the introduction of this legislation. She always aims to provide practical and useful advice to clients in an area that can often be complicated and confusing.

Catherine has developed expertise in drafting Enduring Powers of Attorneys and often advises on Occupation Right Agreements and matters in relation to Rest Home Subsidies. She also has extensive experience in conveyancing and sound knowledge in commercial matters having acted for many businesses.

Catherine currently acts for non-profit organisations and charitable trusts in the Taranaki region and is a member of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Law Society.

Outside of Govett Quilliam

Catherine is the mother to four active children which keeps her very busy outside Govett Quilliam. When she is not managing or coaching one of her children’s sports teams, she loves getting lost in a good book (or podcast) and going for walks with friends.

She has a keen love of films and enjoys playing tennis. When she has the time (and energy) she heads out on her mountain bike and participates in the occasional adventure race.
