Paul Shearer


Paul joined Govett Quilliam fresh out of university in 1992, became Partner in 2000 and is now one of Taranaki's most senior and respected specialist family lawyers. 


Paul has wide-ranging experience in all aspects of family law, including; relationship property, parenting orders, relocation cases, spousal maintenance, claims against family Trusts and pre-nuptial agreements. He is regularly appointed by the Family Court to act for children who are the subject of parenting disputes. 

Paul has vast experience in Family Court litigation and acts for clients in Auckland and through the North Island, as well as in Taranaki. 

Outside of Govett Quilliam

Paul is the chairperson of the Taranaki branch of Big Brothers Big Sisters, which is an international charity that organises adult mentors to guide young people who are at risk. Paul is also chair of the Te Puna Trust which has introduced the 'Early Start' programme to Taranaki, and is chair of the New Plymouth Boys' High School Board of Trustees.

Paul enjoys all sport, particularly rugby, cricket and golf. Paul is married to Laurie and has three children.
